You can stay involved in many ways with Columbia even when you're across the country in the Bay Area.
Columbia Club Board
You can help make the events and local opportunities for our alumni a reality. The Columbia Alumni Club is always looking for new members for its board of directors. If you're interested, simply e-mail Margot Kong at
.
Planning an Alumni Event
The Club welcomes any and all ideas for new events. It's easy to organize an upcoming event. To make the process easier for you, we have developed this set of procedures:
1. Run your event idea and date by Margot Kong at : to make sure there are no overlaps in events or dates.
2. Once you find out that your date works with our calendar, plan the event.
3. Send the following event information to Allan Ng at :
Event Title
Date / Time
Event Blurb/Description
Location
Cost (if appropriate, include member price and non-member price)
RSVP contact information
If you do not have all information ready at the same time, send what you can so we can advertise the event early. Then please notify Allan of when the rest of the information will be available. Your event will be advertised on the club’s website and in the monthly email distributions (emails are sent out around the first or last week of each month, so please plan accordingly).
4. If an event requires advanced payment or you require a reimbursement, please email Marilyn Kline at (at that point, she will email you her mailing address). Have your bills, payment instructions, and/or receipts available to send to Marilyn. Once she receives the appropriate materials, she will send a check.
5. Have the guests pre-pay and send the checks to you rather than paying the day-of so that the Club does not get stuck with the bill. Have all checks payable to the “Columbia Alumni Club Norcal.”
6. Email or call respondents one or two business days prior to the event to confirm all details.
7. Show up to the event 10-15 minutes early to receive the guests and/or hand out tickets (Columbia alums have a tendency to show up to events early!). Please bring an RSVP list or sign up sheet. After the event, send the list of attendees to Margot, the guest checks to Marilyn, and if you took digital photos during the event, you can send those to Allan Ng to post on our website.
Undergraduate Recruiting
Help the College and SEAS recruit students in the Bay Area! Join the Alumni Recruiting Committee.
The Alumni Recruiting Committee (ARC) maintains an active presence in the Bay Area. We participate in recruiting of local high school students, through cooperation with the admissions office in holding local events, and through an active alumni interviewing program.
The University maintains information for interested alumni at their website. There, you can sign up online to aid
the Admissions Office with representing Columbia at college fairs and high schools, hosting receptions for
prospective candidates, and conducting interviews of applicants.
To participate, register yourself with the Columbia e-community by logging into:
