Ivy League Connection Dinner for High School Students
La Folie Restaurant, San Francisco
Tuesday, May 27, 6:30pm
The Ivy League Connection -- a group which sends local students to Ivy League summer school programs -- invites you to join their annual dinner as they celebrate local high school students' admission to Ivy League universities. The group focuses on the West Contra Costa Unified School District -- (WCCUSD) -- a large 30,000 student San Francisco East Bay school district encompassing seven cities and unincorporated municipalities (Kensington, El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, Hercules, and El Sobrante). This district predominantly serves students from low income families -- a great percentage coming from families where English is not the first language spoken at home. This program has proven to be a great success in raising the profile to each of the participating schools throughout the District and has resulted in increased applications to all of them.
This year we are adding Columbia's extraordinary program to our growing list of Ivy League schools -- Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania, Brown University and Cornell University.
The Ivy League Connection works hard to connect its students with the local community as well -- in an effort to inculcate a "college going culture" among a broader group of students. To do this, it hosts events attended by students and their families, and college alums and trustees. This year, we are celebrating both those admitted to the Columbia summer program and one Columbia student -- Kia Walton -- admitted to the Class of 2012, along with many other students. We hope you can join!
