Ivy Alliance at the Opera: Ariodante
War Memorial Opera House, San Francisco
Friday, June 27
Private Lecture and Reception: 6:30pm
Performance: 8:00pm
Ivy Alliance and San Francisco Opera invite you to Ariodante on Friday, June 27 at 8 pm. San Francisco Opera is pleased to offer Ivy alums 30% off regular ticket prices.
Rediscovered after two centuries of neglect, this gem has been widely acclaimed as a masterpiece containing some of Handel's most emotionally expressive arias. A Scottish prince is betrayed by a deceitful duke in this compelling tale of passion, envy, greed despair and ultimate triumph.
Grammy Award winning mezzo-soprano Susan Graham returns in the title role, with the "vocally exquisite" soprano Ruth Ann Swenson co-starring as the princess Ginevra. Polish contralto Ewa Podles, whose performance The New York Times also praised as "electrifying…bringing the house down," plays the scheming villain Polinesso.
Prior to the performance, please join Ivy alums for a private lecture with San Francisco Opera's Musical Administrator, Kip Cranna and a complimentary wine reception in the Chorus Room of the War Memorial Opera House. Participants will be sent detailed reception directions the week of the event.
